Glaucoma Surgery and Treatment in Dahod

The eye has its own internal “plumbing” system that circulates a fluid called aqueous humour. Aqueous is constantly produced in the eye and drains out of the eye through microscopic channels. When something goes wrong with this plumbing system the pressure of the aqueous humour (intraocular pressure) builds up. This can damage the delicate optic nerve which transmits visual information to the brain. This condition is called glaucoma.

Damage to the optic nerve results in blindness that initially affects side vision only. Because central vision is still clear, people seldom notice this loss until considerable optic nerve damages has already occurred. Hence glaucoma is also called ‘the silent thief of sight’. If unrecognized or untreated, eye sight can be lost forever.

Many sophisticated divices are available to detect glaucoma at very early stages thus preserving good vision.

Popularly known as the “silent thief of sight”, Glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness and the leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide. The term ‘glaucoma’ relates to a group of conditions characterised by optic nerve damage and visual field loss.

It has been estimated that by 2020 there will be approximately 80 million people with glaucoma globally with as much as 90% of all glaucoma cases are undiagnosed in the developing parts of the world.

However, improved screening and effective treatment strategies available at Drashti Netralaya are successful in reducing in the risk of detection and treating glaucoma. Many sophisticated devices are available to detect glaucoma at preliminary stages.

Mr. J. M. Desai, Glaucoma Patient, Says

galucoma2 I have lost my one eye due to high pressure in my eye. When the disease was diagnosed my other eye also had very less vision. I am under treatment at DN since so many years to prevent rest of the vision in my other eye. I request all glaucoma patients to get their eyes checked very regularly.
