About Founders & Organization
“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” – Mahatma Gandhi
Selfless, dedicated, and empathic leaders, Dr. Mehul Shah and Dr. Shreya Shah are the guiding lights and the driving force behind Dhrashti Netralaya.
Dr. Mehul Shah is a renowned retina specialist trained at Sankara Nethralaya, and Dr. Shreya Shah, is a paediatric ophthalmologist and oculoplastic surgeon.
They rejected the material pursuits and private, high-income practice in urban centers and chose to serve where the need was greatest.
Dipping into their own and borrowed funds, the couple began treating patients in Dahod. A modest effort soon became a movement, a revolution, with many more joining them in their cause.
Led by their resolve to create Blindness Free Zones, the couple took an outreach camp and turned it into one of India’s most respected rural ophthalmic institutes. Free of cost services are provided along with food, transport, and accommodation as needed.
Partners in life, partners in service, Dr. Mehul Shah and Dr. Shreya Shah are shaping a legacy of hope, healing, and humanity. Recognised and awarded in India and aboard, the love they receive from their patients, doctors, and students remains their most important validation.
